When it comes to breast cancer prevention, keeping up on your recommended mammograms is essential. Early detection leads to more effective and less invasive treatments that can save lives.
We want all women who come to Emanate Health for breast cancer screening to feel comfortable with the process. Our friendly staff includes certified mammography technologists who are available to answer any questions you have. They will go out of their way to make sure your test goes smoothly and that you get accurate results.
What is a mammogram?
Mammograms are low-dose X-rays of breasts that allow your doctor to check breast density and spot possible signs of breast cancer, like lumps and tumors, before you even notice them. Breast cancer is easiest to treat when it's found early.
Both Inter-Community Hospital and Foothill Presbyterian Hospital provide the latest technology in mammograms by offering 3D Tomosynthesis.
When should I start getting mammograms?
It depends on your risk factors for breast cancer. Your health care provider can help you come up with a screening schedule that is right for you.
How do I get ready for a mammogram?
Here are some steps that can help make your next mammogram easier:
- Bring a list of the places and dates of any mammograms, biopsies or breast treatments you'd had done at facilities other than Emanate Health.
- Schedule your mammogram at a time when your breasts aren't tender—try to avoid the week before your period.
- Don't wear deodorant or antiperspirant on the day of your screening.
- You may be more comfortable wearing pants or a skirt, so you only have to remove your shirt and bra for the screening.
