Breast-Feeding Support Services
At The Family Birth & Newborn Center, we're committed to educating and supporting moms who wish to breast-feed their babies. That's earned us a Baby-Friendly Hospital designation from Baby-Friendly USA, an organization that holds hospitals accountable to the highest standards of mother/baby care related to breast-feeding.
Certified lactation consultants
Emanate Health's lactation consultants specialize in helping new moms master breast-feeding. Our team is available at Queen of the Valley Hospital daily to teach new moms breast-feeding skills and answer any questions.
The Family Birth & Newborn Center nurses are also highly trained in breast-feeding support and can offer help and advice as needed.
Breast-feeding classes
To help expecting moms get ready to breastfeed, we offer a Prenatal Breast-Feeding Class. During the class, moms-to-be learn the basics of breast-feeding and get advice about how to deal with common challenges.
Classes are offered monthly in English, Spanish and Mandarin. Registration is required. Please call 626.851.2753 if you have any questions.

Breast-feeding support group
Our Mom2Mom Breast-Feeding Support Group is available for all new moms, regardless of whether or not they delivered here. Moms are welcome to bring their babies as they discuss any challenges they're facing and offer support to one another.
Hosted by our lactation consultants, Mom2Mom Breast-Feeding Support Group also offers continuing education about infant feedings. No registration is required.
Certified Milk Collection Center
Emanate Health Queen of the Valley Hospital is home to the San Gabriel Valley Breast Milk Collection Center. The milk collection center is a community location where mothers can donate extra breast milk. We collect breast milk donations, then freeze and transfer them to the San Jose Mothers' Milk Bank where the milk is pasteurized and sent out to neonatal intensive care units across the country to help babies in need.
If you're a breast-feeding mom with extra breast milk, you may be eligible to donate. The first step to becoming a breast-milk donor is to call the San Jose Mothers' Milk Bank at 877.375.6645. You will need to get approved by the milk bank before we can accept your donations. Once you're approved, we will be able to accept your donations at the Family Birth & Newborn Center.
