Open Heart Surgery Heart Health Care
We offer the following surgical procedures at our Heart Care Center:
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
The coronary arteries supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients it needs to stay healthy. When there is a buildup of plaque, or a clot forms in the arteries the heart muscle is in danger. With a Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery a healthy vein or artery is used to bypass the narrowed or blocked artery. This new pathway redirects the blood supply restoring oxygen and nutrients to the heart.
Valve surgery
The heart has four valves. The purpose of these valves is to prevent blood from moving backwards as it is pumped through the chambers of the heart. Stenosis is a term used to describe a narrowed valve opening which limits the blood flow going forward. Insufficiency is when a valve doesn’t close well, causing blood to leak backwards. Valves can be replaced or repaired. You and your doctor will decide on what type of valve will be used to correct a defective valve, either a mechanical or tissue valve.
