WEST COVINA, Calif. – Bishop Brian Nunes of the San Gabriel Pastoral Region, Deacon Sergio Perez and Archdiocese of Los Angeles Healthcare Liaison Ann Sanders visited Emanate Health for a blessing of the ongoing construction of a new emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit (ICU) at Queen of the Valley Hospital (QVH).
During the visit, Emanate Health President & CEO Roger Sharma introduced Bishop Nunes to staff and physicians and also provided a tour of the cancer center, clinics, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and units throughout QVH. On the tour, Bishop Nunes offered words of encouragement, prayers and heartfelt blessings to Emanate Health team members and patients.
“I am truly honored that Bishop Nunes, Deacon Perez and Ann Sanders from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles chose to visit us and witness what we do for our community,” Sharma said. “His blessings of our facilities, staff and patients have reaffirmed the key role we play in elevating our communities’ health and symbolized our commitment to building a future grounded in compassion and excellence.”
The future includes the new ED/ICU, which will be a two-story, 60,000-square-foot building with a 60-bed emergency department on the first floor, a 24-bed intensive care unit on the second floor, and state-of-the-art medical equipment to provide robust diagnoses and treatment for patients. The new facility, which will offer expanded capacity to serve up to 120,000 patients a year when opened in 2025, addresses a growing critical care need in the community.
Archbishop José H. Gomez appointed Bishop Nunes as the Episcopal Vicar for the San Gabriel Pastoral Region in September 2023. This visit marked Bishop Nunes’s first visit to Emanate Health, which is the largest health system in the San Gabriel Valley.
“It’s just a very powerful experience to always see God’s power at work with people, but in a special way: the power of healing and giving of life,” Bishop Nunes said. “I am really happy to be here with these doctors and nurses and all these professionals and to see the impact that they’re having on so many different patients.”
Emanate Health and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles share common goals of addressing not only the physical health, but also the mental and spiritual well-being of the community members.
