Emanate Health Appoints Veteran Finance Executive Leon Choiniere, CPA, FHFMA, as Chief Financial Officer
Choiniere will help Emanate Health minimize the financial impact of COVID-19 on the hospital system and promote service line growth moving forward
COVINA, Calif. — Emanate Health, the largest health care system in the San Gabriel Valley, has announced the appointment of Leon Choiniere, CPA, FHFMA, to the position of Chief Financial Officer—overseeing all financial operations and related departments for the three-hospital system.
Choiniere brings more than three decades of hospital finance experience to Emanate Health and is a leader in the health care finance professional and organizational arena. With his appointment, President & CFO Roger Sharma will relinquish his CFO title, and will assume Chief Executive Officer duties once the current CEO Rob Curry retires, effective April 2, 2022.
Beyond the traditional roles and background of a CFO, Choiniere also held the regulatory role of Corporate Compliance Officer, charged with the leadership responsibility for developing and maintaining a compliance program. He also led the Compliance and Audit Committee reporting process to the Board of Directors for a seven-year period.
"Leon is a savvy and knowledgeable health care finance leader whose experience will help us navigate the ebb and flow of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our health care system," Sharma said. "He will work closely with executive leadership and the board of directors to achieve superior financial performance, provide counsel on numerous complex financial issues and promote service line growth for years to come."
Earlier in his career, Choiniere held various senior finance leadership positions at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles and Antelope Valley District Hospital in Lancaster.
Choiniere is a Certified Public Accountant, which he achieved while working with KPMG, one of the four largest accounting firms in the United States.
He graduated cum laude from Walla Walla University in College Place, WA, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Choiniere is a Fellow in Healthcare Financial Management Association, a leading organization to support health care finance professionals in the evolving hospital industry.
