Covina Police Officers Wear Pink Uniform Patches to Raise Awareness of Breast Cancer and Early Detection in Partnership with Emanate Health

COVINA, Calif. – Covina police officers are wearing pink versions of their uniform patches during September and October to raise awareness of breast cancer. Through the Covina Police Foundations’ partnership with the Emanate Health Foundation, the Pink Patch Project will support and help raise funds to further breast cancer education, early detection efforts and treatments in the community.
The Emanate Health Foundation is the fundraising arm of Emanate Health, which is the San Gabriel Valley’s largest health care system serving one million people. They will work closely with the Covina Police Foundation’s Pink Patch Project awareness campaign. The Covina Police Foundation was created in 2023 as a platform to provide vital support to the Covina Police Department and the community at large.
One in eight women has a chance of developing breast cancer during their lifetime, and early detection is key for successful treatment. In 2023, nearly 500 Covina patients completed mammograms at Emanate Health hospitals. The additional breast cancer education and community initiatives made possible by the Pink Patch Project will enable Emanate Health to provide potentially lifesaving screenings to even more Covina citizens.
“We are very proud of our partnership with the City of Covina, the Covina Police Department and Covina Police Foundation. I know our partnership will continue to grow for many years to come,” says Emanate Health President and CEO Roger Sharma. “The Emanate Health Cancer Center, which opened to the community last September, is a significant stride in this direction, and working together through the Pink Patch Project, we can continue to serve our community in diagnosing breast cancer early.”
The Pink Patch Project has expanded to several hundred partner agencies worldwide, including police, sheriff, fire, EMS, and federal departments. The campaign also aims to encourage conversations with the community about the importance of early detection.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Emanate Health is sponsoring a breast cancer community event on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. At the free event, the community will meet experts from the Emanate Health Cancer Center and learn about key topics in breast cancer awareness.
